Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Tom took over the family business as a young man, living and working in South Boston’s predominantly Irish working class neighborhood. After chronic back problems and major Scoliosis surgery, he relocated to Ft. Myers, Florida, where he was a Realtor for eleven years. In 1998, he and his family returned to Massachusetts.

Tom studied journalism. He has been a contributing writer and an advisory member to The New Bedford Standard-Times Editorial Board. Over the years, he became a certified scuba diver, ultralight aircraft pilot, avid boater, and motorcycle enthusiast. Since returning to Massachusetts, Tom served two terms on the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School Committee, and has served on several other town committees and commissions. Thomas Cirignano owned and operated an auto repair shop on E. Third Street in the heart of South Boston. He experienced, first hand, those history making years when crime and violence ruled the streets. Southie was like the Wild West, with the Irish and Italian Mobs vying for complete control. This was the Whitey Bulger era.

Sally Gunning lives with her husband in Brewster on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where her roots go back over three centuries. She came to writing at a young age, driven to it in desperation one rainy day when she ran out of books. Today Gunning focuses on digging out the back story to the history that we thought we knew but didn't, and giving it a human face. She is the author of three historical novels set in New England during the tempestuous years that led up to the American Revolution: The Widow's War, Bound, and her latest - The Rebellion of Jane Clarke.
